This Teak floor’s story began in the early 1800s, when Dutch traders sailed across vast oceans and settled in Indonesia. This Dutch influence is still influential throughout the architecture of the nation today.
We too felt the influence and crafted this antique floor using timber reclaimed from Colonial Dutch East Indies homes, readying the board for the next chapter in their storied history.
Having travelled halfway across the world to retrieve them, we set about transforming the flooring in our vision, with each board being carefully hand-sawn – evident through the delightful saw cuts that flicker randomly across the surface of the wood.
Being such a rare and sought-after wood, holding natural history in every grain, we were determined to do this wood justice, allowing the honey tones and naturally occurring blemishes to be celebrated within each board’s gentle movement.
We feel, thanks to the meticulous handcrafting of our expert artisans, we did just that, and an extravagant new chapter has been written in this Teak’s tale.
