TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Our Finishes

Applied by hand and allowed to dry slowly in the air between coatings, finishing a Woodworks floor takes an incredible amount of time and patience. Every consideration is taken when partnering our woods with the perfect surface to complement each feature and assure lifelong durability.

BURNISHED HARDWAX OIL

A durable, natural finish that combines oils to deeply penetrate into the pores of the wood. Slowly built up for maximum protection. Reflects light well and emphasises grain and undulations across the floor. For cleaning oil-based finishes use Care System 2, and for white toned floors with an oil-based finish, we recommend using Care System 4.

OILWOOD TRAFFIC

This finish gives the wooden floor a warm and soft appearance, typical of natural oil-based finishes. It is very resistant to wear and tear and liquids due to natural hardening. For cleaning oil-based finishes use Care System 2, and for white toned floors with an oil-based finish, we recommend using Care System 4.

RESTORATION AND ORGANIC OIL

An organic, oiled based finish made of a mixture nut derived oils and beeswax. Penetrates deep into the pores of the wood to restrict dirt and debris on the surface. Transparent with no visible finish on the floor. For cleaning oil-based finishes use Care System 2, and for white toned floors with an oil-based finish, we recommend using Care System 4.

NAKED SKIN LACQUER

Transparent, soft-feel lacquer that maintains the original ‘unfinished’ look of natural wood. Naturally air-dried for 48 hours in between coats to give maximum adhesion and durability. For cleaning lacquer-based finishes use Care System 1, and for white toned floors with a lacquered finish, we recommend using Care System 3.

SATIN LACQUER

Traditional, durable lacquers that create a tough protective layer on the outside of the wood. Offers lifelong protection through a slow building of coats. For cleaning lacquer-based finishes use Care System 1, and for white toned floors with a lacquered finish, we recommend using Care System 3.

HAND PAINTED

A hand painted finish, completed in our Cheshire workshops, which varies depending on the floor or cladding. For cleaning hand painted finishes use Care System 1, and for white toned floors with a lacquered finish, we recommend using Care System 3.

ORIGINAL POLISHED PATINA

An authentic way of finishing our antique and reclaimed floors. We polish slowly by hand to protect the wood and supply a lustrous look.

UNFINISHED

Supplied without any finish. Allowing you to select a finish to be applied once laid within your project. Please check the relevant Care System for you’re chosen finish to assure the correct protection.

NATURAL OILED

An organic, oiled based finish. Penetrates deep into the pores of the wood to restrict dirt and debris on the surface. Transparent with no visible finish on the floor. Adds warmth to the floor and is easy to re-apply and deep clean. For cleaning oil-based finishes use Care System 2, and for white toned floors with an oil-based finish, we recommend using Care System 4.

Architectural Details

Architectural details provide the all-important finishing touches to your floor. They include architraves, skirting boards, stair treads and pipe ferrules, they can also be finished to complement your floor and we make these items entirely by hand. Due to the variations in natural wood and the differences in how we make architectural elements you will see some noticeable differences.

The stair treads and risers we design are created in both solid and engineered constructions.

Guaranty

Our floors are constructed for demanding environments and our confidence in them is reflected in our minimum 20-year guaranty. Please see our Terms and Conditions for full details to ensure your floors are protected by our guaranty.

Underfloor Heating

Ted Todd floors are constructed from 100% natural wood, so it is important to understand how best to look after your floor when installing it over underfloor heating. All of our engineered wood floors are suitable for use over underfloor heating. If you are planning on using a solid wood floor with underfloor heating, please get in touch beforehand.

Maximum Temperature

The maximum floor temperature can never exceed 80.6°f in any circumstances and in any location under your floor.

Written Confirmation

We strongly recommend that you receive written confirmation from your underfloor heating provider that your system will not exceed 80.6°f in any location.

Floor Probe

A Wall Mounted Thermostat (WMT) should be installed in each room, with a wire ‘floor probe’ installed from the back of the WMT directly onto the underfloor heating system. Without this it’s impossible to control the surface heat generated by the underfloor heating. If set up correctly, this will act as a brake on temperatures above 80.6°f.

Set Up

Always run your underfloor heating before you install your floor. Build the temperature up to your desired room temperature over a week and check that there are no hot spots in the screed. This will also help to expel any excess moisture in your screed. We then recommend that you switch off your underfloor heating system 2-3 days before installation.

Fidbox Monitor

Monitor and record reliable information about the environmental conditions of your hardwood flooring. The Fidbox is installed under the flooring (Fig.2) and measures from below the temperature and humidity fluctuation in the floor construction and the subfloor. The saved data can be wirelessly read at any time from the Fidbox without having to remove any of the flooring. We recommend installing a Fidbox into every room that your floor is being installed (depending on the size of the room), or within every 1968” of an area laid.

Covering Up

It is also important to note that covering your floor with rugs will create hot spots under the rug and it will also limit heat to the rest of your room. You will either need to include this as part of the underfloor heating design or invest in a low pile value rug that lets the heat flow through.
